Squeaky Wheels’ welcomes its new president, Alyse Nelson.

Alyse has been on the Squeaky Wheels’ board since 2017. Previously, Alyse was engaged in bicycle advocacy as a part of the City of Bainbridge Island’s Non-Motorized Committee.

In her day job, Alyse works for the Seattle Department of Transportation. Her background is in urban planning, with a masters degree in the subject from the University of Washington. Alyse discovered a love of transportation planning, and bicycle planning specifically, during a 7-month research fellowship in Copenhagen, Denmark. Copenhagen was where Alyse learned to bike as a mode of transportation, and found the joy of the bicycle as a way to get around!

Alyse has a husband and two kids – Orion (19) and Riley (6). In her (not very much) spare time, Alyse likes completing triathlons, reading books, and traveling.

Her commitment to bicycle advocacy remains to help all islanders be able to choose to bike and learn the joy that comes with traveling on two wheels.Interested in connecting? Feel free to email Alyse at president@squeakywheels.org
