Caroling – Heedless of the wind and weather

There is a strong possibility that, consistent with past years, possibly driven by a seasonal urge of some kind, many of the island bikers will spontaneously take to caroling, wassailing and other forms of festive mirth in the coming days. It is highly rumored that this Thursday night, headless of the wind and weather, the 4:40 boat commuters will be struck by this urge and ride about Winslow dressed in bright apparel and flashing lights singing … it is further rumored that this throng will return to the intersection of Winslow and 305 to incite the riders of the 5:30 boat to join them in merriment eventually destined to shelter at some local establishment for refreshments… There is also rumor of them meeting again on this Saturday at the Ale House at 4:00 and doing it yet again.

Squeaky Wheels does not sponsor this behavior but we recognize the force majeure nature of this phenomenon and want all cyclists to be careful to request a ride home from their spouses or friends if they become overwhelmed by merriment and imbibe too much cheer …

In addition, Saturday being Santa Lucia Day, tends to bring out beautiful spirits dressed in white wearing lighted crowns, handing out gifts, and encouraging all to be seen with lights, reflectors and bright clothing to keep them safe from the demons of the night. They will carry the tidings of the local bicycle shops advising what equipment will serve one best in the pursuit of the quest of high visibility. Please welcome these spirits into our midst’s.

These are all just rumors but there will be carols posted on the Squeaky Wheels web page …

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la la la la!

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la la la la!

Strike the harp and join the chorus, Fa la la la la la la la!

Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la la la la la!
While I tell of Yuletide treasure, Fa la la la la la la la!

Fast away the old year passes, Fa la la la la la la la!

SILENT NIGHT
Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar. Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night! Son of God love’s pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face. With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth. Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

O Come All Ye Faithful
O come, all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, Born the King of Angels!

(chorus) O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

Sing, alleluia, All ye choirs of angels; O sing, all ye blissful ones of heav’n above. Glory to God In the highest glory!
(chorus)

Rudy The Red Nosed Biker
You know Jackson, and Timo, and Demi, and Jenny, Bee-sue, and Billy, and Lisa and Benny
But do you recall … The most notorious biker of all

Rudy, the red-nosed biker, had a heavy drinker’s nose
and if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.

All of the other bikers, avoided him and called him names
They never let poor Rudy, ride in any biker gangs.

Then one pouring new-years eve They-all came to say:
“Rudy with your lights so bright, won’t you lead the peleton tonight?”

Then all the bikers warned him, as the motorcycles let out their rips,
Rudy the red-nosed biker, Don’t go down on the apron lips!

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar, Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born

Jingle Bells
Dashing through the snow. On a one horse open sleigh. O’er the fields we go, Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tail ring, making spirits bright. What fun it is to laugh and sing a sleighing song tonight

(chorus) Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride, In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago, I thought I’d take a ride, And soon Miss Fanny Bright, Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank, Misfortune seemed his lot, We got into a drifted bank, And then we got upsot.
(chorus)
Now the ground is white. Go it while you’re young. Take the girls tonight. And sing this sleighing song
Just get a bob tailed bay, two-forty as his speed, Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you’ll take the lead
(chorus)

Silver Bells
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks. Dressed in holiday style
In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas
Children laughing. People passing. Meeting smile after smile
and on every street corner you’ll hear

(chorus) Silver bells, silver bells. It’s Christmas time in the city. Ring-a-ling, hear them sing. Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights. Even stop lights. Blink a bright red and green.; As the shoppers rush home with their treasures
Hear the snow crunch. See the kids bunch. This is Santa’s big scene. And above all this bustle you’ll hear
(chorus)

The Wassail Song
Here we come a-wassailing; Among the leaves so green,
Here we come a wand’ring, So fair to be seen.

(Chorus)
Love and joy come to you; And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year, And God send you a happy new year.

We are not daily beggars; Who beg from door to door,
But we are neighbor’s children; Whom you have seen before.
(Chorus)

We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas; We wish you a merry Christmas; We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.

(chorus) Glad tidings we bring; To you and your kin; Glad tidings for Christmas; And a happy New Year!

We want some figgy pudding; We want some figgy pudding; We want some figgy pudding
Please bring it right here!
(chorus)
We won’t go until we get some; We won’t go until we get some; We won’t go until we get some
So bring it out here!
(chorus)
We wish you a Merry Christmas; We wish you a Merry Christmas; We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
(chorus)

OLD LANG SYNE
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we’ll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint-cup! and surely I’ll buy mine! ; And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught, for auld lang syne.
CHORUS

Oh Holey Tights (sung very slowly and with deep feeling …)
Oh holey tights, my buns are brightly shining, tis the source of my dear neighbor’s mirth …
Long have I worn them on my leather bike seat; til the seams they can barely hold my girth.
My wife she says I look a little silly; my children wince and quickly look away.
I fell on the ice! The tired fabric parted!! Oh holey tights!!! The tights that I have worn out … Oh tights!! Oh Tights!! Oh … my holey tights! …..

Be Seen & Be Safe.  Have a safe ride!

Thanks for riding!
