spacer squeaky wheels...supporting a bike-friendly Bainbridge Island, Washington

Ferries play a big part in the life of Bainbridge Islanders. According to WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation), statistics indicate that in a recent 12 month period, 229,077 bicycle round trips were made on the ferries. 38% of those trips were made by Bicycle Pass Program members. Your bike costs $1.00 besides the passenger fare, paid in the Seattle to Bainbridge direction only. Frequent commuter passes for your bicycle are available through the ferry system. For more information about how to start bicycle commuting, there is information on our FAQs page here and our Useful Links page here. You can even get a commuter buddy to help you.

Bike travel FREE on the bus. . .
Here is the site of all things Kitsap Transit including bus schedules and routes (bikes travel FREE on buses!) Under Commuter Programs, you will find information about the Bainbridge Bike Barn and lockers by the ferry, bikes on Kitsap buses, Commute Trip Reduction programs for employers and the Flexcar program. Did you know there is a Guaranteed Ride Home program for regular non-motorized commuters - guaranteeing a ride home in case of emergency? Lots of great stuff here.

How to be sure to trip the traffic light
Ever wondered if the traffic light was going to change for your bike? This shows in detail how to position your bike at a traffic signal so that the signal will acknowledge your presence and switch to a green light.
