Safe Roads for All gathering E-mail

Everyone should have the right to travel safely on our roadways. All community values surveys on the island during the last decade have shown that increasing safe biking and walking spaces is a number one priority.  Two sections of road have gotten paved bike shoulders in the last three years-Bucklin Hil and North Madison.  Both have increased safety for bikers and ease of driving for motorists immensely.  But there is a huge backlog of projects to do, all of them itemized in the Non-Motorized Transportation Plan adopted by COBI in 2003.

Monday night, October 17 is a community gathering to explore ways to fast track these projects and to add other safety features.  We'll explore speed limits, enforcement and education along with engineering.  Current and potential city council members have been invited along with school leaders and traffic safety experts.

Please come!  And please bring all of your ideas for making our island safe and pleasant for everyone who uses our roads, our public rights-of-ways.

6:30-8pm in the Winslow Commons: Refreshments served. More info: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
