Kitsap County Bikes Everywhere – events planning, January 17, 2017 at 9:00 am

Greetings and Happy New Year!
First, thank you for all your hard work and dedication. We are right on target with less than four months until kickoff of the Kitsap County Bikes Everywhere events. We had a great meeting in December!

Kitsap Public Works has volunteered to host a commuter station in South Kitsap.  Now all regions of Kitsap County will be covered with commuter stations. Cal Bodeutsch from Kitsap Public Transit has volunteered to pick-up the registered commuter stations from WA State Bikes/Cascade Bicycle Club. Lastly, some of the school districts are interested in bike education and activities for their districts, more to follow.

Here is an overview of the committee’s current efforts:

Education in Schools/Bike to School Day: As of today, two of the five districts are interested in education, promotion, and activities, but need to follow-up with the other three. The representatives from each district need to obtain buy-in and support prior to moving forward. They would like to know how we can support them. A lot of you have mentioned you would like to work with the school districts, thank you. Hopefully, we can meet with the representatives soon to discuss further.

Bike Everywhere Day/Month: At this time the Haselwood YMCA and Kitsap Public Works have volunteered to host a commuter station. Cal Bodeutsch from Kitsap Public Transit has volunteered to pick-up registered commuter stations and supplies from WA State Bikes/Cascade Bicycle Club. Currently registration for the 2017 commuter stations is not available. We have determined that each organization hosting a commuter station is responsible for registering their own commuter station on the WA State Bikes website, staffing their station, and obtaining supplies and incentives, unless we obtain donations for such. As for the National Challenge, we’ve decided to not create our own at this time and use the WA State Bikes challenge. Participants and teams must register if they would like to take part in the challenge.

Donations, Sponsorships, and Insurance: We are seeking a nonprofit entity who will allow us to use their tax ID number to obtain sponsorships and donations. We are asking West Sound Cycling Club, WA State Bikes/Cascade Bikes, and Squeaky Wheels to consider such. Projected expense sheet attached. The greatest question still remains, do we need to have insurance if we are promoting and supporting established activities within the community? If you know someone who could help us determine whether or not we need insurance for these events, can you please give me their name and contact information? Thank you!

Partnerships: We are still looking for representatives from Kitsap County Parks and Recreation, Fire Departments, Safe Kids, and Bremerton YMCA. Please feel free to invite vested parties to our next meeting. All non-members of the YMCA must bring photo ID and complete form.

Our next meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 9:00 am at the Haselwood YMCA.

Thank you for all you do!!!! This would not be possible without your support.

Sincerely,

Ms. Aimee C. Aldendorf
